父親在東方文化中一直都有著嚴肅威嚴的感覺，也因為如此，我們鮮少對父親表達愛與感謝。

Only a Dad
《只是一個父親》
Only a dad with a tired face，
Coming home from the daily race，
Bringing little of gold or fame，
To show how well he has played the game，
But glad in his heart that his own rejoice
To see him come and to hear his voice。
只是個面帶倦容的父親，
結束每日的奔忙後回到家中，
沒有帶回多少金錢與名利

但家人看見他回到家中，聽到他的聲音

One of ten million men or more。
Plodding along in the daily strife，

Only a dad， neither rich nor proud，
Merely one of the surging crowd。
Toiling， striving from day to day，
Facing whatever may come his way，
Silent， whenever the harsh condemn，
And bearing it all for the love of them。

This is the line that for him I pen：

關於作者
Edgar Albert Guest
（埃德加·艾伯特·格斯特，1881—1959）是20世紀上半葉一位多產的美國詩人，曾當選為密歇根州的“桂冠詩人”，被稱為“人民的詩人”。
格斯特出生於英格蘭的伯明翰，10歲那年隨其家人遷居美國底特律。1895年，他開始在《底特律自由新聞報》當送報員，後成為一名記者。
格斯特畢生創作了上萬首詩歌，其中大部分詩作充滿溫情，積極樂觀，閃爍著智慧之光。他的詩作曾一度透過報業聯合會在300家報社同時發表，後被彙編成二十餘本詩集，A Heap O‘ Livin’（《一堆生物》，1916）是其中最著名的一本。
