Selling the Donkey
Nasreddin Hodja decided to sell his donkey。 He took him to the market place and handed him over to the broker。
“Sell this donkey for a good price，” he said， “and I’ll give you five akce。” The broker took the donkey and started to shout。
“A donkey like this never came to this market before。 You cannot find its kind anywhere else。 Such a bargain！ You can pile as much load as you want， this donkey can carry it。 If you don’t feed him for three days， he won’t complain。 His strength won’t be any less。 He is not stubborn。 You pull him this way， he goes this way； you pull him that way， he goes that way。 He can fly like a bird。 You can drink your coffee on it when he is running。。。”
As the broker praised the donkey like this， the buyers lined up， and the price started to increase。 The Hodja was surprised to see all these people wanting to buy his donkey。 He hadn’t known that his animal had so many qualities。 He decided to keep him after all。 He paid the broker’s fee and took the donkey back home。
When the Hodja arrived home， he told his wife what had happened。 His wife agreed that the Hodja had done the smart thing by paying the broker and taking his donkey back。
參考譯文
賣驢
納斯雷丁先生決定賣掉自己的驢子。他把驢牽到集市上，交給了經紀人。
“把這頭驢賣個好價錢，”他說，“我給你五阿克切。”經紀人牽著驢開始喊道：
“市上從來沒有過這樣的驢。這種驢哪裡也找不到。便宜咯！不想往驢背上裝多少東西就裝多少，這頭驢都能馱得動。你三天不餵它，它都不會抱怨的，而且力氣頭也不減。這頭驢不犟，你往這裡拉它，它就往這裡來；你往那裡拉，它就往那裡去。它能像小鳥那樣飛，它跑起來時，你可以騎著它喝咖啡……”
經紀人這樣誇獎驢子的時候，買主排起隊，價格開始上升。先生看到那麼多人想買自己的驢子，非常吃驚。他原來不知道自己的牲口有那麼多的優點呢。他還是決定自己留著。他付了經紀人的費用，然後把驢子牽回了家。
先生回家後，把發生的事情講給了妻子聽。他的妻子很贊同，說先生支給經紀人錢，把驢子牽回家，這件事做得高明。
